Paddling a Kayak along a peaceful river. Last summer I bought an inflatable Kayak to take with us to Cornwall camping with friends. We were beside a watersport lake. BUT the meanies there would not let us use it.....may have been an insurance issue for them don`t know.
Anyway it came home unused. But I took it along to Lins last weekend when I stayed at the marina on her boat. The pair of us went for a peaceful evening paddle along the river Ouse. It was lovely. Next day we paddled around the marina saying hello to the other boaters. All great fun and I can`t wait to do it again.
There's something graceful and fundamental about a boat. I nearly said 'peaceful', but I've rarely felt peaceful while afloat. No. Instead I've got into rows, run aground and lost friends. I like the idea though. One day ... one day ...
It is when you are using what you have learned from books that you wish you had read more.
Having paddled a 16' canoe across the Algonquin Park waterways at times 3 days paddling away from anywhere or anyone (but the bears!) and having owned a 36' old east coast "double ender" (must be something about boats with points at both ends!) I defiantly have a 'thing' for boats. Its been a while since I have been paddling despite still having the canoe and many suitable local waterways to explore. Perhaps this is the summer to take my granddaughter for a day trip! The 36" 'hole in the water in which to pour money' has long since gone to her grave...... but not a watery one and not whilst I owned it!
