"Would you mind being furloughed?" HR asked me, about four weeks ago. "You'll get 80% of your wages, and we'll tell you when to come back?"
"I'm good with that," I answered, "just ... Don't ring too soon?!"
So. I've been off.
Fifteen shelves up. Boat sorted. Towbar on the new car. Hoovered, cooked, slurped alcohol. DIY done. Taken deliveries. Fitted a new oven. Weeded. Played with the kitten. Dossed About. Played the Xbox. Watched some TV. Fettled the uke. Sorted my Mum's estate. Messengered my bro'.
Had a laugh, to be honest.
Work? Perhaps another three weeks!
If this is the New Normal ... I'm good, thanks. I'm ok with this.
Now in my 70s I have be 'furloughed' for some years now, it has its good moments ans some not so good, the latter situation mostly brought on by enforced hibernation brought on by the Canadian winter. With afternoon temps getting up to a balmy +6 or so and more sunny days starting to show up the itch to get out and actually DO something is building to a fever!
If you are not working on more than 15 projects at once and are not hustling your ass off like a beaver hopped up on speed, you are lazy and need to drink more coffee and listen to more Gary Vee! Hustle hustle hustle! Nothing less! /s
I just bought 2 more 32" monitors, so I can increase my live-stream viewing capacity and overall productivity! I can now keep track of all of the following simultaneously on multiple monitors: 4 FB groups, FB newsfeed/chat; Forex Exchange and 8 other real-time tickers, my Offer Up/Ebay/Etsy/Craigslist/Bonanza/Amazon/Let Go seller accounts, Spotify, Gary Vee vids, Tony Robbins vids, daily mantra vids, Air Bnb listing for my 20 properties, 8-10 sub reddits, 4 Twich accounts /4 Youtube accounts/4 Zoom room livestreams, UFC Fight Pass, Discord, CNN/MSNBC/Fox/Young Turks/Russia Today vids, and Omeggle. Sometimes I feel like I'm sill to lazy!
Really rather enjoying Lockdown. Might not be the case had the weather not improved but we cannot control that and thankfully it is beautiful at present. Everything is coming into leaf and bud and looks splendid and very fresh. "Our" Swallows have returned. I have books to read. Some Lego and paints and materials to do some art. Make the best of what we have is my mantra.
Unlike a friend a few miles away who does not seem to realise just how good she has it. She is able to work from home and is still on full pay in a very well paid job. But she has no patience whatever....end cant come soon enough for her. She is bored. Cant wait to go shopping again. It is all so unfair...if any one needed to chill it is her But there we go. We are all different.

Having a garden is a life-saver, to be honest. Maybe it's the glass of Merlot in the hippie-hut. Maybe a bit of weed(ing). Perhaps an hour covered in sawdust in my boat shed. Or three days of fence-painting.
If I was stuck in a flat or a high rise I'd be going mad.
Haha Bez! Yes agree they can be hard work but our lawn is lees croquet and more pasture. In miniature of course! As for weeds and wildflowers well if they give a hand to bees and other insects they stay. I do not want a sterile manicured land. Although a nice hardstanding area would be a nice thing to have as our drive seems to have lost all its shingle....

Gravelfest. My last gravelfest was in the summer of 2018, when six tonnes or so were delivered. Moved, by hand, to various projects around the garden. My pride and joy is the four tonnes or so lying under the boat's parking area. It's like a little splash of seaside by my front door.
The boat, of course, is as furloughed as the rest of us. But she sports a new flag - a big 5 by 3 foot pirate one, currently flying over the street.
WEll we mow so Billy cant hide poo where we are likely to walk . But rest easy knowing we leave boarders untouched and the grass verge by the gate and have plenty of rough around the edges for the insects. This despite the neighbours asking why we dont tidy things up...
