I've volunteered to run a French (language) beginners class and was trying to arrange a meet time convenient for all. One person said 'problem is that I'm so busy'.... which indeed they could be, but it got me to thinking about the definition of 'busy'.
I asked my wife afterwards, when talking about being busy, that doing nothing occupied all of my time - does that count as busy? She then asked me if I knew of the Bing Crosby song. I hadn't...
I've been singing it to myself all day whilst I was so busy doing nothing in the garden! What a jolly little tune and a worthwhile idler anthem! 😁
As budgets shrink at my workplace, and unfilled vacancies abound, I find that I'm using 'Don't even think of asking me to do it cos I'm far too busy' strategies more and more. But that's just a front; something I leave at the door when I set off for home each night. I do know other people who do this, but they actually believe their own hype, spending time trying to convince their friends that they're really busy and indispensible etc. For me it's simply workload management.
