Well Canada is today officially 150 years old, just a baby by British standards but you lot did brave the harsh east coast winters a couple of centuries before that and get us started. Its no wonder it took a while before central Canada was settled if the first settlers view of the country was winter in Newfoundland! We may be a young country by European standards but given recent world events I for one am glad of the choice I made to move here some almost 50 years ago now. So please join me in celebrating our diverse country of 36 million, about half the population of GB but with nearly 4 million sq miles to spread out into we make your little island but a speck in the ocean. Still I have fond memories of my youth in "Jolly Old" so raise a glass towards the west and I will do the same to the East. Happy Canada Day eh!
wow. happy birthday Canada. 150 really isn't that old! that's (just about) generational memory (eg an old person alive today would have memories of knowing people who were alive before Canada was its own country.
its hard to imagine the space you have there too. though much of it is (melting) icy wastes! I've looked at wilderness Canada on map before (I like maps) and theres nowt there. no roads no towns, nothing. no doubt there are work towns, mining and other earth explotation settlements and they fly in and out or make epic seasonal roads.(hey I've seen ice road truckers!).
somewhere in the distant past of my family, a couple of people ran away to Canada. but then they came back! I wonder how much of this happened? screw this its too cold. so are the people of Canada desended from the daft, brave or just to broke to leave! lol.
like michophull says, we don't really hear that much about your next of the woods.
so are the people of Canada desended from the daft, brave or just to broke to leave! lol.
Ha Ha, Not all of us are crazy, although there are times in the middle of winter after a 3 day snow storm with every thing shut down and 2 feet of snow in the driveway when we say "wot the Hell are we doing here" ....... but then as I said elsewhere looking at the cluster fuck that Brexit is bringing you and the total FU that is Trumpisim I think whats a couple of months of snow in exchange for a sane PM and friendly neighbors.
Hey, its not always cold and snowing here, we just had our first full day of sunshine after what seems like months of rain! Well actually "just" 6 1/2 inches in the last 3 weeks !! Good hay crop for the farmers ....... and on my back lawn ......
