Adult son finally moved down to new rooms in the basement after many weeks moving 'stuff' from old single bedroom to his new suite (well it sounds better than pair of rooms) downstairs. There must be some magic fairy dust in the accumulated crap left over because both it and the 'good' stuff now put away in his new digs seems to be of a greater volume than is possible to have come from one 8 x 12 room! As a result, having spent 3 months building & decorating said new digs and attached bathroom I now find that as a reward for my efforts I get to redecorate the old one........ oh joy !!
Oh to be totally helpless in the building trades (and blessed with unlimited funds to gat some high priced contractor to do it all)....
good work kanuck. you do realise, he'll never leave now though!
my dads been diy-ing the bathroom for several weeks. its perfectly adequate and functional and clean but it is very dated looking.
so they were gonna get a whole new suite. get people in to do it. but when realised we might be without amenties for a day or more then was decided no. there is no other bathroom to use. no more toilet.
so ok. he'll do the tiles. why don't you get someone in? nope. oh but actually yeah maybe he won't do the tiles. he does know how but is getting to old for that shit.
so leave the tiles.
so in the end it was just cosmetic stuff. theres new side panel on the bath and by the sink. one cupboard door replaced and another cupboard painted and new flooring put down (jeez the huffing and puffing that took). new skirting, assorted painting n stuff.
he might even after nearly 40 years in this house actually put a fuvkin hook on the back of the bathroom door!
thing is, although he huffs and puffs and gets stroppy and constantly seems to lose tools the minute he puts it down, I think its done him the world of good. something to do that isn't watching daytime tv and counting buses.
i'd paint the tiles, me. that's a thing now i'm sure. and fix that bathplug too.
"you do realise, he'll never leave now though! " Actually thats my plan, gota have someone to look after the old man in his dotage eh..... "although he huffs and puffs and gets stroppy and constantly seems to lose tools the minute he puts it down," Hmmmm, did not know we are related......?!
